HCL Commerce migration to version 9.1

Complete infrastructure rebuild and accelerated release cycle thanks to containerization.

Customer: European B2B wholesaler

The customer was using an outdated HCL Commerce 8 environment that no longer met modern requirements for management, performance and scalability. To ensure continuity and simplify future maintenance, the decision was made to migrate to HCL Commerce 9.1, combined with a completely new infrastructure on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

Approach

Cursum designed and realized the new environment entirely from the ground up, with an emphasis on lifecycle management, stability and ease of upgrade.

The migration included:

  • Setting up a container-based architecture in Azure AKS, including CI/CD integration.

  • The migration of all commerce components, data and customization from version 8 to 9.1.

  • A thorough testing and validation phase to ensure functionality, performance and security.

The new container setup makes performing future upgrades and fix packs significantly easier and less risky. At the same time, the environment is more scalable, cost efficient and easier to manage within the Azure cloud.

Method

Cursum was responsible for architecture, implementation, migration planning and project management.

Despite a tight lead time of over four months, including extensive test cycles, the project was delivered within time and budget. The transition took place in a controlled manner, with minimal impact on the operational web shop.

The result is a modern, container-based commerce environment that enables future-proof upgrades and has greatly reduced the overall management burden for the platform.
